HIGHTLIGH – CONTOUR is an outdoor public exhibition consisting of 9 flagpoles facing the boulevard at Prags Boulevard 61, Amager Øst, Copenhagen.

The series of flags HIGHTLIGH – CONTOUR, refers to the strategy of ‘make-up’ inspired by ‘facades’ and draws parallels between the construction and beauty industries and the way they use typologies and mock-ups to attract people.

The application of contouring techniques shows the user how to use light and shadow to accentuate different types of facial features, to shape the face, to make the face more defined or to soften the lines of a wide jawline.
Hymøller applied these contouring guidelines to macro photographs of demolished buildings taken by the artist during a recent urban regeneration project in Amager, Cph, DK.

As an additional layer and to create a patchwork effect, the flag fabric is coated with bronzer and self-tanner
During the exhibition, Hymøller will also explore how wind and weather affect the treated makeup fabric.

Upscale Flag Project t is a new established, non-profit, artist-run, outdoor project and exhibition space with a focus on contemporary art that aims to explore the concept of gentrification.

The exhibitions are site-specific and engage in a dialogue with the architectural and historical surroundings of the former machine factory at 61 Prags Boulevard and the old industrial area known as Laplandsgadekvarteret, Amager, Copenhagen, DK.

The framework of the exhibition consists of 9 flagpoles and a billboard with text conveying the exhibition, integrated into the facade of the building facing the boulevard and will be accessible to the public 24 hours a day.

The intention behind the project is to create public art that opens up reflection and critical artistic discourses by inviting artists to create site-specific works for the flagpoles that act as a moment of surprise for passers-by. In addition the exhibitions will serve as a peek into the artistic process, making citizens aware of the various creative artistic environments in one of Copenhagen’s last industrial neighbourhoods.

The Upscale project space takes its name from the concept of upgrading urban, residential and industrial areas to make them more attractive and liveable. It is a response to the extensive urbanisation that has taken place over the last 150 years or so, which continues to grow cities around the world. Upscale Flag Project is a collaboration with the artist-run exhibition space Eks-rummet, which has been exhibiting both new and established names from the Danish and international art scene since 2011. The exhibition space also collaborates with Atelier Prag 61, a 25-year-old studio association on Prague’s Boulevard. Like many other creative entrepreneurs, Laplandsgade has been home to many artists.
