Beads on String
Clay, pigment, rope.
Exhibition: Foundation Eks-Rummet, Cph, DK, 2023.
Beads on string is an arrangement of material formed from different sizes of raw clay lumps shaped around rope and made up-ed with tinted pigments in blue and grey colours. The palm of the hand squeezing and fingerprints are implied in the material. These ropes hang from ceiling to floor like roots and propagate as cuttings or growths in the space.
The sculpture is inspired by jewellery as a status symbol related to gender and stone as an archaeological artefact found in abundance in prehistoric sites. Each piece is sized and assembled to create a whole, like stone tools or beads on a string.
At the same time, the immediate shape of each clay lump relates to the origin of a very basic force, where the arrangement and the way it is organised might indicate that a ritual has taken place.
